“Chasing Dreams” is a print of an original mixed media collage of a young girl riding her horse, symbolic of her chasing hard after her dreams. Nothing will stop her. The original was collaged on a 22"x30" 300# watercolor paper. The materials I used to create the collage were cattlemarkers, pearlescent watercolors, gold acrylic, hibiscus tea, coffee, blueberry juice, cotoneaster & aspen leaves, porcupine quills, seashell, red garnets, wasp paper, date blossom, clippings of hair from the artist & a friend’s horse and peacock, chicken, parakeet, parrot, sandhill crane, pheasant, Montana sharp-tail grouse, duck & turkey feathers. I took the reference photo of the running horse during a skijoring contest in Bozeman, Montana and the reference photo of the girl is of my granddaughter, Nyota.

I developed my own style of collage by using painted paper or recycled paintings. I cut or tear the painted paper into pieces and then assemble them into layers, often adding a variety of materials to adorn each image. Each brilliantly-colored and whimsical image tells its own story and is often a reflection of my own personal struggles and triumphs. I earned my bachelor of fine arts degree from Montana State University and currently resides in Bozeman, Montana. You can find more of my art at shirleyrobinett.com.
