“I Am A Tree” is a print of an original mixed media collage of a tree who has weathered the storms. If you look really close you can see a few robins and little chickadees setting on the tree limbs. Text on the image includes the words: “I am a tree and when the storms come, my roots go deep. I created this piece during a time in my life when I was going through some tough struggles and health issues. During that time, I found where my true strength comes from – my creator. The original is about 10”x11” and was collaged on 300# watercolor paper (NFS). The materials I used to create this collage were cattlemarkers, watercolor and paper birch tree bark.
I developed my own style of collage by using painted paper or recycled paintings. I cut or tear the painted paper into pieces and then assemble them into layers, often adding a variety of materials to adorn each image. Each brilliantly-colored and whimsical image tells its own story and is often a reflection of my own personal struggles and triumphs. I earned my bachelor of fine arts degree from Montana State University and currently resides in Bozeman, Montana. You can find more of my art at shirleyrobinett.com.
