Riding Destiny is a print of a mixed media collage of a young girl riding a bear. This image has a deep meaning to me (the artist) and I gave the original to my granddaughter. The materials I used to create this collage were cattlemarkers, watercolor, cotoneaster leaf, porcupine quills, horse hair, wild Montana grass, construction paper, and peacock, emu, parakeet, parrot, duck, Montana sharp-tail grouse, pheasant & chucker feathers. I took the reference photo of the bear in Yellowstone National Park and the reference photo I used for the girl was of my granddaughter.
I developed my own style of collage by using painted paper or recycled paintings. I cut or tear the painted paper into pieces and then assemble them into layers, often adding a variety of materials to adorn each image. Each brilliantly-colored and whimsical image tells its own story and is often a reflection of my own personal struggles and triumphs. I earned my bachelor of fine arts degree from Montana State University and currently resides in Bozeman, Montana. You can find more of my art at shirleyrobinett.com.
