Artist's Description
“The Light Within” is a print from an original mixed media collage created on handmade watercolor paper using cattlemarkers, watercolor, coffee, gold acrylic, porcupine quills, and sharp-tail grouse, blue grouse, duck, partridge, parakeet & pheasant feathers.
Symbols in this piece --- The light coming from the inside of the teepee and from the stars above, symbolize the light within us. The three horses in the background and on the tepee are symbolic of my 3 horses that are no longer with me. The view from Bozeman, Montana of the majestic Tobacco Root Mountain Range in the background is symbolic of beauty of Montana and my past. I added a small circle with 2 arrows at the doorway of the teepee I saw in a dream once. I reminds me of the relationship we have with God and with others.
About Shirley Robinett
I developed my own style of collage by using painted paper or recycled paintings. I cut or tear the painted paper into pieces and then assemble them into layers, often adding a variety of materials to adorn each image. Each brilliantly-colored and whimsical image tells its own story and is often a reflection of my own personal struggles and triumphs.
