Description
“You are My Song” is a print of original mixed media collage of a young girl and her leopard friend on their journey. I created the original piece for my granddaughter’s 21st birthday, so I used her as my reference to create the girl. It’s fun to look through the image to find all the pieces, like the little blue bird, golden thread, porcupine quills, sheet music, flowers, leaves & feathers (see the list of ingredients below). The moon is set in the sky as it was in the early morning just like it was this past April (2020) on her birthday. There is symbolism and several symbolic items in the piece. Also, I wrote a poem for my granddaughter who loves to sing and has a beautiful voice:
“When hearts are woven with threads of gold
And love drives out fear to make us bold,
When stars shine bright like diamonds in the night
and the leopard paints her spots so bright,
When the little bluebird arrives in early spring
and I can hear your beautiful voice sing,
And when the April moon sets before dawn
You will always be my song.”
I collaged this on a 14”x18” 300# Arches watercolor paper using cattlemarkers, watercolors, gold acrylic, coconut milk latte, kosher salt, porcupine quills, fox fur, horse hair, sea shell, To a Wild Rose sheet music, white squill flower blossoms, mountain ash & aspen leaves, bones from Alaskan salmon, watercolor paper painted by my granddaughter Kayla, my mother’s thread of gold, hair clippings from me and my mother, my grandmother’s handmade beaded white flowers, alfalfa blossoms from the family’s Colorado farm, teal & pink plume, and sandhill crane, emu, parakeet & Montana sharp-tail grouse feathers.
